If you aren’t following the official LA Kings twitter account you are not getting the full value of the internet. The tweeter(s?) behind the account are hilarious. I have a fondness for trolling (hence my excitement for our guest bloggers.) There are limits though. Misogyny, racism and homophobic slurs, for example, are not funny or clever. Jokes about serious injuries (like concussions) or death also make me VERY uncomfortable. The LA Kings twitter account never even comes close to crossing these lines though.
Some Canucks fans… well, they aren’t taking the gentle teasing well (thus confirming every stereotype about Canucks fans.)
And I do mean hateful. Loaded with misogynistic & homophobic slurs (and comedic spelling & grammar) to say these tweets are ugly is a gross understatement. Peruse them at your own risk.
Lily of Scantilily Clad did a great write up on the hate tweets that I recommend checking out.
It sucks that people see nothing wrong with hateful speech but it certainly illustrates the necessity of the You Can Play Project. It also sucks that these ‘fans’, much like the rioters last summer, are giving all Canucks fans a bad name. For a great analysis of the ‘outrage’ from a smart Canucks fan with a sense of humor check out this post by Thomas Drance of Canucks Army.
